Flint Hills Kaw Canyon run - Friday, May 11th

Post by TJ » Wed May 09, 2007 8:14 am

Epic run on the Kaw from Junction City - Manhattan planned for this Friday afternoon.

Details:
Friday afternoon float from Junction City to the 177 bridge. The Kaw, as I write this is at 26,600 CFS, normal flow is a little more than 1000 cfs. About 21 miles, but should be lots of fast water. At 5 mph, which seems slow, we can make the trip in 4 to 5 hours. Off the river well before dark. We could meet at the Hwy 177 bridge access at 2PM, shuttle and be on the water by 2 and off by 7.

This is a beautiful river section that I generally do overnight. It is arguably the most scenic public river section in KS. With the current flows, it should be an easy trip.

The Kaw Canyon trip was awesome on Friday. Our group of 5 boats launched in Junction City at 23,000cfs on the Kaw and took 4 hours on the river to float into the new Hwy 177 access on the Kaw in Manhattan.

What a great cruise!
